The South’s stories in the words of the people who lived them. Signature interviews with writers, performers, artists and activists, including B.B. KingPete SeegerAlice WalkerAlex HaleyEudora WeltyWalker EvansRobert Penn WarrenJulian BondSon ThomasJohn Dollard, and many more, can be found on our Interviews and Oral History subject page.

And so many of these interviews and oral histories have come from local treasure troves: the collections of renowned folklorist William R. Ferris and UNC’s Southern Oral History Program, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. Kudos and thanks to both! And as long as there are southerners, there’ll be southern stories. More is yet to come.
