For continued growth and high-quality, award-winning content, Southern Cultures relies on the support of numerous friends and partners, as well as on the benevolence of individual gift makers.
This month we would like to highlight the generous $5000 bequest from Roy Truslow Mitchell, of Martinsville, Virginia.
Mr. Mitchell attended UNC, but before graduating he left school and attended Officer’s Candidate School in Oklahoma. He then served two years as Army Platoon Commander in Korea, before returning to graduate from UNC in 1971. He earned his Masters in Business Administration from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business in 1973 and began his business career in Chevy Chase, Maryland. After five years he left to live in Martinsville, where he began his 27 year career at American of Martinsville. He began as VP of Sales and Marketing, became President of the AOM Residential Division in 1990 then moved to American’s Contract Division, where he was VP of Sales and Marketing for ten years. His career eventually took him to Home Meridian International, as President of their Hospitality Division. He served as President until his retirement in July 2010. He also was on the Board of Directors at Patrick Henry Community College and Boys’ Home in Covington, Virginia.
Roy Truslow Mitchell was a fan of Southern Cultures, and we remain indebted to him, his estate, and his family for supporting our work.
